Ruthless Fraud Examiner

If you’ve made it this far into my website, you might already know I’m not your typical consultant—and I’m definitely not your CPA. What I am is fiercely protective of my clients, unapologetically ethical, and deeply committed to helping professional practices understand the business side of their work, because I believe you deserve to feel confident, in control, and protected.

After years in corporate America, I saw something broken: Dentists, doctors, and other practice owners were working hard—but had no idea what their practices were actually costing them. I couldn’t stand by while practice owners struggled to understand financial systems that were never designed for their practice-world use. So I created a better way.

In 2003, I designed the first truly business-focused Chart of Accounts for professional practices—back when most were four pages long and only a CPA could decipher them. My goal? Give you clarity and control. From there, the QuickBooks Desktop Extreme Makeover was born—and I’ve never looked back.

For nearly 30 years, I’ve worked exclusively with professional practices—dental, medical, veterinary, chiropractic—bringing order to chaos and building systems that actually make sense. I was an Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor (from when the program began), and I’ve written 48 books (yes, 48!) sold internationally, including Managing Accounts Payable in Your Practice, Money In, Money Out, and the long-running QuickBooks In Your Practice series.

But my work took a deeper turn after something happened that made me furious.

I had trained an office manager how to run QuickBooks in their practice. The dentist didn’t participate. The office manager stole from him. That betrayal drove me straight into fraud examination, and I became a Certified Fraud Examiner—adding to my background in criminology—to help ensure it never happened to another unsuspecting practice owner.

Today, I help clients investigate embezzlement with discretion, compassion, and the full force of my expertise. I walk beside them every step of the way—from suspicion to investigation, prosecution, and beyond.

I’ve been honored to contribute to the ADA Practical Guide to Expert Business Strategies, serve as an ADA Financial Matter Expert and Consultant, and be recognized as a Leader in Consulting by Dentistry Today since 2005. I’ve also served as Treasurer for the Academy of Dental Management Consultants and was deeply honored to receive the Charles Kidd Spirit Award for leadership and service.

In 2020, when the world was turned upside down, I launched the Money In, Money Out podcast to help practices navigate uncertainty. It quickly grew to a resource I’m incredibly proud of, filled with practical advice, tough love, and some amazing guests, but podcasting involves time consuming research. The episodes are still available but I haven’t recorded in a bit.

Beyond my business, I’m a caregiver at heart. I walked through that sacred, heartbreaking, beautiful journey with my elderly parents and step-grandmother—an experience that became the book Matters of the Heart: A Journey in Caring for Aging Loved Ones. If you’re a caregiver, I see you.

When I’m not elbows-deep in financials or fraud investigations, you’ll find me at a Rangers game, watching tennis, or serving in my Arlington, TX community—where I’ve been honored to serve on the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Board and Chair the Arlington Arts & Tourism Council.

And if you’re looking for a speaker who can make you laugh, challenge your thinking, and leave you with practical tools you’ll actually use—I’d love to speak at your next event.

Let’s bring order, clarity, and confidence back to your practice.
