It is a New Year with new challenges – are you ready? Take a deep breath and step into a fresh new start for the new year!
For many, the 2022 goals were oriented in “survival.” The trauma of the pandemic continued and was overwhelmingly real to so many who lost loved ones, friends, and /or had their own health impacted. I had COVID twice in the past year, and was hospitalized for a few days after speaking at the ADA meeting with respiratory failure and bacterial pneumonia. I am very thankful to bring in this new year in great health!
The social skills of our society, and work ethic, have suffered. If you have not listened to the Hire Train Retain podcast with Stacie Humbles yet, you will want to do so. It was truly fascinating hearing what a high school principal put in to place to help their faculty and students. All the information carries over to every aspect of any business. Very intriguing and mindful. You can listen here or on your preferred podcast network. Just search for “Susan Gunn.”
Every year I create a phrase specifically for that year to inspire and motivate me. Funny enough, the phrase for 2020 was Best Year Ever. Yeah, well. Sorry, I feel like I jinxed it.
For 2023? I have more than one.
Be the Compassion and Wisdom Someone Else Needs
Work Smarter, Not Harder
Remember to Play, For There You Are
It is shortsighted to believe that nothing needs changing in our work and personal lives. Everything can be going great, yet something always needs tweaking. We just have to give ourselves the opportunity and freedom to change.
It is a New Year with new challenges – are you ready? Take a deep breath and step into a fresh new start for the new year!
This year’s phrases are built on last year’s successes and frustrations. There were many weeks I worked 7 days a week, and which, unfortunately, left very little time to play. Busy is good but not at the sacrifice of living life. That is the purpose of having a motivational phrase to keep me on track.
One of the areas I have been working on developing this last month was providing quicker access for clients to schedule consulting time with me by adding Calendly to my toolbox. Before, it has been back and forth emails or phone calls and now it is a click in finding a convenient time for my client. Why I have not added this sooner?
I also officially added two services, though they have been on a much smaller scale in the past.
Money In, Money Out Coaching is a short term coaching option to help your practice work on the systems needed to clearly oversee the practice. This coaching is a fantastic option for new dentists, as well as those long term docs that need some short term guidance. Though customized, this coaching follows a schedule to ensure the areas that need securing are done so in an appropriate manner and time frame.
The Quarterly Integrity Oversight service is for practices that have taken advantage of the Ask The Expert conference call, discovering changes that needed to be implemented in the practice or those that have experienced embezzlement for which I completed the fraud examination. This is a cost effective strategy to help protect the practice from embezzlement, by providing an additional set of experienced and knowledgable eyes to your finances.
If you are interested in any of these, you can schedule a conference call to discuss what best fits your needs on my new scheduling page! It is truly that easy.
Back to inspirational phrases. As I said, last year I found myself so overwhelmed with work, I forgot to play. It is very easy to do this when you love what you do in business. Honestly, I have not figured out what “play”will “look” like this year but the phrase is in place to remind me. Sometimes my head says “head down, plow ahead” but “all work and no play makes….” – you get the idea.
Helen Keller – “Life is a daring adventure or it is nothing at all.”
Satchel Paige – “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?”
Major League Baseball pitcher Satchel Paige knew the essence of “play.” I think play keeps us young and is vitally important to our well-being. He also said, “Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” He threw out his last pitch in the Major Leagues at 59 years old! If you have never read about Satchel Paige, do so. His life and determination are inspiring and I do like a good baseball story!
What is your inspirational phrase for 2023? Let me know and if you need someone to hold you accountable, I can do that too! In the meantime, remember doing the same thing in 2023 may produce the same results, good and bad. Hang on to the good habits, and let go of the bad habits. That is what a new year is all about!
Warren Buffett – “The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself… the more you learn, the more you’ll earn.”
